During my boat building course I patterned for and made two faux tongue-and-groove bulkheads for the Folkboat. I used plywood, Honduran mahogany, and the vacuum bag technique. I milled ¼” x 2 ¾” mahogany veneers and laid them out on both sides of the sheets of plywood in their rough finished shape. I laminated the veneers to the plywood substrate using epoxy and a vacuum bag. I repeated this process three more times to create two, double-sided veneered bulkheads. Next I set up a router jig to route shallow v-grooves along the veneer seams to create the tongue-and-groove appearance. Lastly I transferred the patterns to each of the two veneered plywood pieces and cut out their final shape using the jigsaw and bandsaw.
