Dovetail Drawers

I made these drawers for the Folkboat during my internship at the NWSWB. The project consisted of designing, building, and installing the infrastructure to surround two drawers as well as the drawers themselves. The drawers were installed under the aft deck of the sailboat, meaning there were no existing vertical pieces on which to install the drawer slides. It also meant I had to make everything plumb and level without existing reference faces. After completing the infrastructure, I made two drawers out of douglas fir with hand cut dovetails, floating plywood bottoms, and mahogany drawer fronts. I patterned for and built a mahogany face frame to surround the drawers. Lastly, I installed latches that were invisible from the outside but easy to use and would keep the drawers locked shut when sailing.
